5 Tips for a sustainable garden house

Back

The high increase in electricity and gas prices probably hasn’t escaped your attention. Sustainability is playing an increasingly important role in our lives. Therefore, we are happy to provide you with five tips to make your garden house sustainable and thus save on energy costs.

Solar panels on your summerhouse

One way to make a garden house more sustainable is to install solar panels. Solar panels are a sustainable long-term investment and require little maintenance. It is possible to install solar panels on your summerhouse roof. The surface is a lot smaller than your own house, so fewer solar panels can be installed on the roof. However, if you want to install solar panels, you need to take the extra weight of them into account.

The roof size needs to be calculated for this. Based on analysis, we can accurately determine the load-bearing capacity of your summerhouse roof. Once your solar panels are installed, you can use your own generated electricity. For example, for (garden) appliances or electricity. Discover even more benefits of solar panels on your garden shed.

Make use of LED lighting

Usually, a garden house does not have many windows, which means little light comes in. Lighting is therefore necessary, especially in autumn and winter when it gets dark faster. You can easily create a cosy atmosphere with the right lighting and it doesn’t have to be expensive.

By using energy-efficient LED lighting inside and outside your summerhouse, you can make substantial savings on your energy bill. This is because LED lights are energy-saving, they last longer, and provide excellent light. Outdoor tip: Buy a wall light, which works on a sensor. This way, the light only comes on when you walk past and you don’t have to look for the light switch in the dark.

Insulate the summerhouse

If the garden house is used as a second home, it is of course important that it stays nice and warm in autumn and winter. You can choose to insulate the summerhouse yourself or have it insulated upon delivery. With us, you have a wide choice of different insulation systems. For example, we offer the option of roof insulation, wall insulation and floor insulation. By opting for insulation, you will stay warmer for longer and save on energy costs. Choose a green roof

You can make your summerhouse more sustainable with a green roof! Green roofs are becoming increasingly popular and are also incredibly sustainable. You can easily green the garden shed roof by using sedum cassettes or sedum mats. A green roof is suitable for any garden shed, whether the roof is flat, style or pyramid-shaped. And it has several more advantages. A green roof insulates very well and it creates more habitat for birds and insects. Just keep in mind that there will be extra weight on the roof. We can strengthen the roof of your summerhouse so that it will be strong enough to support the sedum cassettes or sedum mats.

Double glazing for your summerhouse

Less cold through the windows of your summerhouse? Replace single glazing with double glazing. Double-glazed windows contribute to a durable garden shed. We therefore recommend fitting your summerhouse with double-glazed windows. This increases the insulation value and reduces the risk of draughts and noise from outside. And of course a side benefit, your energy costs remain low. We like to think along with you. At Lugarde, we supply our summerhouses with HR ++ double glazing as standard. Discover our options.
